Ive been going to drift events at Balcony for just shy of 20 years, and in many ways, not much has changed. Sure, the course expanded when they moved the wall (the green cinder block structure used to be OUTSIDE the course instead of a feature of it), they dont have canvas covered hay bales any more, which is great since they would charge you a couple hundred bucks if you hit one and damaged it, the shed is long gone (RIP). On the other hand, when you attend an event like the one Mo Perez put together, majority street style cars, many of them driven up instead of trailered, no 18-wheelers and no trace of competitive vibe, it just takes you back to the 00's era, full grass roots vibe, a welcome change from so many of the recent events.
Mo managed to get a number of drivers in attendance who have also been driving WSIR for well over a decade, and even a few bay area transplants who have been drifting for decades, but never at balcony. The friendly vibe is something that is impossible to purchase, but when the recipe is done correctly, the result is always fantastic.
